Do I Have to Wait 6 Months Before My Road Test?
Yes—if you're under 18 in Wisconsin, you must hold your instruction permit for at least 6 months before taking your road test. This waiting period ensures you have enough time to complete your driver education, practice your skills, and build confidence.
During those 6 months, you’re expected to complete both the classroom and behind-the-wheel phases of driver’s ed, as well as at least 30 hours of supervised driving with a parent or guardian.
Only drivers age 18 and older are exempt from the 6-month holding requirement. However, even adults benefit greatly from taking a certified driver education program like ours—especially if they want to feel fully prepared for the test.
CrashCourse makes the process smoother by offering multiple program options, professional instructors, and payment plans that make it easy to get started today. We also offer a state grant option for eligible students—though availability is limited.
